What is the RIN?

Rail Innovation Network – RIN aims to create a powerful collaboration between the academy and the industry, with the objective of driving a change in innovation in the railway sector and fostering the adoption of new technologies and products from the research phase to their later application in the market at a global level.

To this end, the RIN project will develop three Centres of Excellence made up of Technology Centres from the RVCTI (Basque Network of Science, Technology and Innovation) and Universities based in the Basque Country, in collaboration with the test and trial facilities present in the industry.

The centres of excellence will be created around the following areas: (1) Digital Systems, (2) Rolling Stock and (3) Infrastructure.

Why is it created?

To provide industry with access to world-leading facilities and skills and to support research, development and innovation of new technologies and products. With the support of industrial partners, the centres will be able to develop world-leading research from the initial idea to market application. The Centres of Excellence will allow a faster delivery of new products and technology to the market.

How can it help you?

The Rail Innovation Network – RIN is an accelerator to drive processes and get products and innovations faster to the market.

The specific benefits of the rail network are:
• To create a network of contacts with the leading local innovation organisations.
• To learn about the existing capabilities and solutions that are otherwise difficult to access.
• To launch projects that are stuck in piloting and implement them on a real scale to check the final viability.
• To optimise the return on investment. Companies will not need to focus only on making their innovations profitable, since there will be a transfer of technologies and knowledge that will make it much easier to make projects cost-effective.
• Belonging to the network offers a brand prestige as an innovative organisation.
